Insurance only approved part of my roof (one slope or a few squares). Can I get the whole roof?
A partial roof approval is the most common underpayment we see in Georgia and the Carolinas. The insurer agrees a storm damaged your roof — that part of the fight is over — but pays only the slopes or squares where their adjuster counted enough hits. The question is no longer 'was there a storm', it is 'can this roof actually be repaired in pieces'. Very often the honest answer is no, and the policy has language that says so.La aprobación parcial de techo es el pago insuficiente más común que vemos en Georgia y las Carolinas.
What a partial approval usually looks likeCómo suele verse una aprobación parcial
The estimate shows 'replace 5 SQ' or 'front slope only', plus a few line items for ridge cap and a small dumpster. The rest of the roof is labeled 'no storm-related damage found' or 'wear and tear'. Sometimes the adjuster only walked the slope closest to the ladder, or only ran a test square where the light was good. In other cases the approved amount falls just under your deductible, which turns a real claim into a zero-dollar check.
Three arguments that turn a partial into a full replacementTres argumentos que convierten lo parcial en reemplazo completo
- Repairability. Shingles past a certain age become brittle. If a brittleness test shows the existing shingles crack when lifted to slide in a new one, the 'repair' the insurer priced cannot physically be performed. That is a documented, photographed test — not an opinion.
- Matching and uniform appearance. Many policies (and endorsements) require repairs to result in a reasonably uniform appearance. If your shingle color or profile is discontinued, an ITEL report proves no match exists, and the discussion moves from 'one slope' to 'the whole visible roof'.
- Line of sight. Even where matching is not written into the policy, adjusters routinely apply a line-of-sight standard: slopes visible together from the ground should match. A front-slope-only approval on a hip roof rarely survives that test.
- Reparabilidad.
How we handle itCómo lo manejamos
We re-inspect every slope with chalked test squares, run and photograph a brittleness test, pull an ITEL match report when the shingle is older than a few years, and rebuild the estimate in Xactimate with the full scope: tear-off, underlayment, ice-and-water where code requires it, flashing, drip edge and the ordinance-or-law items your policy carries. Then we send a supplement with the evidence attached, not a phone call. In Georgia most policies give you at least a year from the loss to do this; the sooner the roof is documented, the stronger the file.

Common questionsPreguntas frecuentes
The approved amount is less than my deductible. Is the claim over?
No. A partial approval below the deductible only means the insurer's scope was small. If the full roof qualifies, the claim can be worth many times the deductible. Do not withdraw the claim; get it re-scoped.No.
Does Georgia have a matching law?¿Georgia tiene ley de igualación?
Georgia does not have a statute that forces insurers to match. Matching comes from your policy language, from endorsements and from industry practice. That is why the policy has to be read, not assumed — we do that in the free consultation.
My roofer says the whole roof needs replacing. Isn't that enough?
A roofer's opinion is a sales document to the insurer. What moves a claim is evidence: test squares per slope, a brittleness test, an ITEL report and a line-item estimate in the insurer's own software. That is what a public adjuster produces.
