The insurer's third-party inspector found less damage than my roofer. Whose report wins?
A roofer's report and a carrier vendor's report are both written by people with a stake in the number. The roofer wants the job; the vendor wants the next assignment from the insurer. Neither is fraudulent, but neither is neutral — and an adjuster on the desk will believe the vendor every time. The way through is not a louder opinion. It is a third report built to a standard both sides already accept.
Why the reports disagreePor qué los reportes no coinciden
- Different test-square locations: the vendor tests the least-exposed slope, the roofer tests the worst one
- Different definitions of a 'hit': bruising counted by one, only visible fractures by the other
- Different tools: a drone sees pattern, not fracture; a hand sees fracture, not pattern
- Different time of day: low sun shows hail, noon sun hides it
- And sometimes, honestly, an aggressive roofer marking granule loss as hail — which is why the carrier ignores the roofer's chalk to begin with
How to break the tieCómo desempatar
A licensed public adjuster's inspection is different in one specific way: it is written in the carrier's own language. Test squares on every slope, hit counts per square against the standard the carrier uses, pressed-shingle photos, soft-metal dent measurements, weather data, and an Xactimate estimate the desk adjuster can open in their own software. We also request the vendor's full photo set and compare it slope by slope — vendor reports frequently omit slopes they never reached, and that omission is itself the argument.
If the carrier still won't moveSi la aseguradora sigue sin moverse
Two paths remain, and we tell you honestly which one fits. A re-inspection with a different carrier adjuster, requested in writing with our report attached, resolves most files. If the disagreement is purely about the amount and your policy has an appraisal clause, appraisal puts the number in front of an umpire — and vendor reports built from a drone rarely survive an umpire who reads the pressed-shingle photos.

Common questionsPreguntas frecuentes
Should I send the insurer my roofer's report?¿Le mando a la aseguradora el reporte de mi techero?
You can, but expect it to be discounted. A roofer's estimate is useful for pricing after coverage is settled; it rarely settles coverage.
A vendor the insurer hires to set a ladder, take photos and sometimes count hits so the adjuster does not climb. Their report is data collection, not adjustment, and it is only as complete as the slopes they reached.
We work for you, and we say so. What makes the report credible is not neutrality — it is that every claim in it is photographed, measured and written to the standard the insurer uses, so it can be checked.
